Today was a good day for kayak fishing but I felt like exploring instead of going to places i know i can catch fish. We launched the boat in Safety harbor, FL and headed north. (first time in this area). The wind was blowing really hard and based on how the water was moving i figured one spot in the distance would be good regardless of the wind. Sure enough there were lots of speckled trout on the edge of the grass flat with some nice bigger trout in potholes just up on the flat. Me and my father blind casted and drifted for a few minutes catching some nice fish.
There were more fish to be caught in that area but i wanted to explore new areas since i had never fished on this side of the bay before. The tide was slowing down and so was the bite so i headed to the courtney campbell causeway to wait for the incoming water. Once the water started flowing we caught some speckled trout and a couple flounder on jigs. When the bite slowed at the bridge there were a series of oyster bars that looked promising so we slowly creeped up and sure enough they were full of fish. The sun warmed up the water, and the incoming tide brought crystal clear waters. Just behind the oyster bars there were tons of speckled trout and some redfish mixed in. For about a half hour we caught a mix of trout and reds mostly speckled trout. The wind began to pickup and the bite slowed down so we ate some sandwiches and headed in.

Saturday, November 19th 2 hour kayak fishing trip
Tonight I fished an area near Clearwater beach, FL. Got out around sunset and there were about three dolphins eating all the fish in the area. As the sun went down I continued to watch them destroy ladyfish, speckled trout, and redfish. It's pretty entertaining to watch dolphin eat because they'll actually throw the fish in the air and play with it.
Headed inside a creek to fish some dock lights using the mirrorlure little john on a 1/4 oz jighead. First cast at the first light I caught a nice redfish that fought hard. Followed that up with a speckled trout, and four more redfish. The bite slowed down for 10 minutes so i waited without casting and watched as the bait got concentrated in the light and the fish moved back in. First cast yeilded a nice snook around 4 pounds it fought hard and did a bunch of somersaults. Followed that up with another snook much smaller than the first and right before i left i caught a big trout around 23 inches.
For fishing right around the block from the house, using one lure, during 15 mph winds...
It was a good 2 hour trip. Watching the dolphins destroy ladyfish was fun in itself as they were sometimes only a few feet from the kayak.

November 12th,
The plan was to jig up a few ladyfish and cut them for big overslot Redfish. We wound up catching an unexpected snook on the first cast around 24 inches. Continued to catch some ladyfish and speckled trout on the new Mirrolure little john lures with a 1/4 oz DOA Jighead. I cut up some ladyfish chunks and my client hooked into a few of the big reds but they spit the hook. When you're fishing with big pieces of cut bait and circle hooks you have let the fish swallow the bait and not try to set the hook. A dolphin came during the redfish bite and it became big ladyfish, trout, and catfish from that point forward. We wound up catching some big speckled trout with one over 26 inches on the cut bait. There were some nice trout that ate the mirrorlure little johns as well.
Moved to another area found a few baby tarpon laid up shallow but no bites. We caught nice snook bigger than the first one, and a few more smaller snook along with more ladyfish. Everything was caught on mirrolure little johns and cut ladyfish.
Overall i wasn't entirely dissapointed with the night. Considering the winds were blowing 15mph and there was a cold front we did more than good for the circumstances.
